About the Course

Participants will learn to interpret key hotel analytics by calculation of various performance metrics and analyse hotel revenue management by applying basic techniques employed in the property level benchmarking and hotel industry performance reports.

Trainer Profile:

Alex Choo, Deputy Manager

Alex spent 10 years of his career as a hotelier in various properties including Marina Mandarin Singapore and Pan Pacific Orchard, before switching to education to groom the next generation hotel and tourism practitioners. Passionate about hospitality and hotel operations, Alex has been teaching and sharing on such topics for over 10 years as a lecturer at Nanyang Polytechnic. He holds a Higher Diploma in Hotel Management from SHATEC and a Bachelor of Science (Hotel, Restaurant & Travel Administration) from the University of Massachusetts.

  • Course Outline

    1. Brief introduction to the hospitality business

    2. Computation of the key hotel rooms performance indicators of Average Room Rate (AOR), Occupancy Rate (OCC), and Revenue Per Available Room (RevPAR)

    3. Reading and interpretation of hotel rooms performance reports (property-level and STB-generated reports)

    4. Analysis of property-level rooms performance as benchmarked against a competitive set, and basic decision-making based on the analysis
