The course aims to empower the participants with the ability and confidence in developing business ideas that meet the needs of the intended customers. The participants will embark on a hands on experiential learning journey, where they will learn, practice and experiment with the design thinking methodologies and techniques.
Through learning and applying need finding, idea generation and prototyping skills in the workshop, the participants will gain a deeper understanding in uncovering customers' needs and testing the solutions, thereby enhancing their abilities in turning thoughts into innovative and human-centric business solutions.
Trainer Profile:
Tan Ting Feng, Lecturer
Before coming into Nanyang Polytechnic, Ting Feng was with Keppel, responsible for hedging activities (total value of over USD 100 million) to manage risks in the energy markets. Later on, he joined Barclays Capital as a Valuation Controller and liaised with traders, risk managers and other price-testers globally. He also provided mentorship for junior members in the organization. Ting Feng next took up a senior management role in his family business, Voltele Electronics, which is an electronic components distributor. His leadership helped drive his team to consistently hit sales targets and expanded the network of clients. At the same time, he spearheaded the company's venture into new products and established working relationships with key international suppliers.
On the academic front,he graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering (First Class Honours) with National University of Singapore. Driven by his curiosity, he went on to obtain the Master of Science in Financial Mathematics with The University of Chicago.
Gene Gan, Adjunct Lecturer
Gene Gan is the founder of an enrichment entity (Newtonapple Learning Hub) which provide premium lessons to children aged 5 to 18. In 2016, he has gone on to conduct corporate trainings to schools in Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia and Mongolia. He now sits on Management board with Mavis Tutorial Group as Deputy COO and Marketing Director. His tenure as a Deputy COO and Marketing Director include HR planning, budget reporting(P&L accountability), Business Development, Regional Development, overseeing marketing, sales and branding campaigns. He is also a Design Thinking corporate trainer to school teachers. Some of the schools include Serangoon Garden Secondary School, ACSi, Nanyang Girls High, Capella and Shangrila Groups.
