About the Course

The current pandemic has rewritten the playbook for Singapore’s hospitality & tourism industry. In this changed landscape, brands have had to seek out new growth opportunities, retune their business plans, unlearn old habits and adopt new ones. Singapore will need to continue working to ensure that the destination remains top of mind for high-value business and leisure travellers. 

This is the time Hospitality & Tourism players will need to be creative in finding new revenue streams, such as pivoting to digital platforms, and called on businesses traditionally reliant on foreign visitors to reposition their business to target locals more effectively. For executives to adapt to such a fast-changing business landscape, they have to be equipped with a set of portable skills & knowledge in related business operations.

NYP’s Diploma in Business Practice (Hospitality & Tourism Management) is designed to develop and groom you for such positions within the various related sectors. It also develops you into a versatile individual who can handle the cross-cultural demands of this dynamic sector. The diploma will open doors to exciting career opportunities around the world, grooming you to be a future leader in the vibrant tourism industry. You will be equipped with the requisite skills, relevant knowledge and specialised training to succeed in this growing sector, which includes Hotel, Resort, and MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conventions & Exhibitions) businesses

  • Course Aim

    The Diploma in Business Practice (Hospitality and Tourism Management) aims to provide participants with a broad understanding of business operations through engaging discussions in management, economics, marketing and business communications.

    The modular certificate course helps participants develop skills in hospitality and tourism management. Participants can expect to apply the acquired knowledge in their area of work to eventually achieve their professional goals.

  • Target Participants

    The programme is suitable for:

    • Executive and management support staff handling hospitality and tourism operations, and who do not have a formal diploma qualification but want to enhance their employability, capabilities and market value, to move up to the next level of their career path. 
    • Supervisors working in the hospitality and tourism sector who wish to obtain the “breadth” in business operations so as to enhance their employability and capabilities within the organisation. 
    • Working adults who wish to have a career change and join the hospitality and tourism industry, and would like to have a better understanding of Hospitality & Tourism knowledge.
  • Certification

    Learners will receive a Modular Certificate upon successful completion of each semester and will be conferred the Diploma in Business Practice (Hospitality and Tourism Management) upon completion of five designated Modular Certificates.

  • Admission Requirements

    Applicants with any of the following qualifications are invited to apply for the course:

    1. Minimum of 3 GCE ‘O’ Level credits, including English, Mathematics and at least 1 year of relevant working experience;
    2. NITEC with GPA ≥ 3.5 OR

                                      GPA ≥ 3.0 and at least 1 year of relevant working experience;

    1. Higher NITEC with GPA ≥ 2.0 OR

                                       GPA ≥ 1.5 and at least 1 year of relevant working experience;

    1. NITEC in Services / Technology with GPA ≥ 3.5 and at least 1 year of relevant working experience;
    2. Higher NITEC in Services / Technology with GPA ≥ 2.0 and at least 1 year of relevant working experience;
    3. Relevant WSQ Advanced Certificate (or higher), and at least 1 year of relevant working experience and Workplace Literary & Numeracy (WPLN) at Level ≥ 6.
    4. Others - At least 2 years relevant work experience (subject to interview/assessment).

     

    Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

    Applicants who do not meet the entry requirements may be considered for admission to the course based on supporting evidence of competency readiness. Suitable applicants who are shortlisted may have to go through an interview and/or entrance test. The Polytechnic reserves the right to shortlist and admit applicants.

  • Course schedule (conducting days & time)

    The course is 900 hours and comprises of FIVE Modular Certificates. The programme can be completed in 5 semesters or in 2.5 years. Lessons will be held three evenings a week, from 7pm to 10pm for each session. The next intake for the course will be on 18 April 2022. Registrations will open from early December 2021 to 6 January 2022.

  • Course delivery methods and assessments

    • The course will be delivered using a combination of lectures, tutorial-based classroom discussions, individual and group research projects and case study-based learning. 
    • About 30% of the lessons will be conducted or available through e-Learning/self-directed learning mode. 

     

    Course assessment will consist of continuous assessments in the form of written tests, class participations, presentations, project work and end-of-semester examinations.
